Sewing Table Plans
These are the copies of the actual drawings I gave to the cabinet maker.
I had several reasons for making this myself rather than buying one.
1. Commercially made tables were not the right size to fit my sewing room.
2. I wanted a gas lift that was attached at the back - thereby giving me maximum knee room.
3. I wanted to have rounded corners and edges! These are not available in ready made tables!!
4. I wanted my own style of insert!
5. I quite enjoy making my own 'stuff' if I can!
The following are small copies of the full sized diagrams in the PDF - so - if you can check out my particular plans before downloading the PDF.
All dimensions are in metric (sorry) but there is a very handy - and free - converter here. You may not like my sizes anyway!
Top and edge details
Side panels. I forgot the hole - and had to drill it later. It was actually just as well because if I had done it before putting the table together I would not have put it in the right place! It is slightly below the lowered level of the machine platform.
Shows the arrangement of holes to support an insert. I plan to make my own insert from 6mm (0.25") thick Perspex (Acrylic sheet) This will be supported on ordinary shelf supports that are usually used for kitchen and bathroom shelves. It will be flush with the top surface.
I have seen somewhere that the 830's Slide on Table can be used instead - but it won't be flush! I'll have to wait and see how I like it. Meanwhile, I will have the option of either.
Top view of panels showing where I had to put brackets.
End (or Side) view.
A corner - which has beautiful rounded edges!
All the diagrams above are at full size in the PDF (347 KB) - which you can download here
N.B. 13th Oct 2008 update: I have amended the instructions to delete the front bracing! The PDF file is unchanged. More info is on the Sewing Table page here
